When one of her college boyfriends ended up becoming a movie star, Anna David became fixated on finding another famous boyfriend. But jobs at celebrity magazines and intimate encounters with boldfaced names ultimately left her clear that no red carpet embrace or award show acknowledgment would bring her what she was ultimately seeking. The novelist, memoirist and author of the best-selling Single Animal Attraction examines our society’s relationship with fame from one of its most obsessive perspectives her own.

They Like Me They Really Like Me Single eBook Anna David

We hear a lot about the lives of celebrities, A-list, B-list, C-list and beyond, but rarely do we get a look at what it's like to live in proximity to celebrity. Anna David explores not only being next to fame, but wanting to acquire it by proxy, whether as a girlfriend or date or even something not quite measuring up to either of those. She names one name, Matt Damon, who she briefly dated before he hit the big time, but the other men who orbit her world are left unnamed, all the better to guess who she means. Her encounters take place in LA, and are most fascinating because celebrities seem to pop up at random moments, but their appearance isn't remarked upon or fawned over, except internally. David contrasts her external cool calmness with her internal fantasies about what being seen with and known as a celebrity's friend would do for her life. Ultimately, this essay is less about the inner workings of celebrity as it is about David's dreams about what the kind of fame where anyone walking down the street would recognize signify for her. Still, the way the celebrities treat her (for example, assuming she'll sleep with them mere hours after meeting, simply because they're well known) is also interesting. Worth reading whether you devour US Weekly or not, but ultimately leaves it up to you to decide whether stars are just like us, and vice versa.

They Like Me They Really Like Me Single eBook Anna David Reviews

It would have been nice if she had dropped a few more names. It was definitely noticeable to a point of distraction. That being said, I enjoyed the introspective point of view.
I haven't generally been one to read these sorts of stories, but I remembered seeing Anna David on G4 and when this popped up on I figured I would give it a go. It gives an interesting insight not just in to hollywood hangers on but also a girls attempt at finding herself amongst all of this. The personal feel of the story and the well written nature made it easy to just read through in 1 brief sitting and then pass it to a housemate for them to read. Can happily recommend it.
Anna David is back, and this time, she is navigating her way into the world of celebrity. "They Like Me... The Really Like Me" is one of Anna's best works.

Anna's last release "Falling For Me" was a journey into her life and she follows it up very nicely in "They Like Me". Anna has a very conversational and natural style to her writing. She also has no problems poking a little fun in her own direction, while presenting some really fascinating stories.

You'll see her hits and misses of her journey, and you'll get a front row seat for all of it.

Very Highly Recommended!
Another unbelievably open and brutally honest self examination, attempting to discover why people are so determined to connect with someone famous. Analytical, funny, absorbing and at times a little sad, "They Like Me, They Really Like Me" helped me to understand a little about why people become so obsessed with celebrity and the effect it can have on them. I highly recommend this quick, fun read and the price is right. Buy it now!
I read the sample and liked it. I also like Singles to whip through for a quick evening read. This book is really well-written and entertaining and I've read Anna David before and really like her style. She's honest, smart and hilarious. However, I gave this book a generous 3 stars because it took me ten leisurely minutes total to read. It read more like a prologue than a Single. Definitely not worth the $2.00 I paid as it belongs in a magazine as an article. I spend lots of money (too much!) on ebooks but don't regret it. I like being able to easily find what I want to read when I want to read it (instant gratification=rationale). However, before you purchase this particular Single, take note that it's far, far too short.
As a twenty-eight year old man returning to college after a nine year hiatus this semester, I was recently re-introduced to just how painful reading can be. One might claim to enjoy reading (as I so often have) but slide a copy of "American History Through the Reformation" in front of them and their favorite pass time suddenly looks an awful lot like a visit to the dentist.

This single reminded me of why I so thoroughly enjoy reading.

Anna David does an amazing job of providing us insight into her tenure as a Hollywood Hanger-On, but more importantly, how there's a little bit of that in all of us. I'm a married man in the frigid and extremely fame-free center of Massachusetts reading about a beautiful woman dating "A-list" actors; that's about as far apart in perspective as two people can be, yet her incredible honesty about her feelings, her motives, even her weaknesses made me feel much more like I was commiserating with an old friend (or in some cases, myself) than reading about a stranger's adventures in LA. The emotional parallels between our two lives, despite completely different experiences, are indicative of how well Anna David expressed not just a snippet of her life, but of all of our lives. Everyone struggles with insecurity, everyone's had a bad date, and we all have been attracted to someone for the wrong reasons. Her story is our story; hers just has a higher profile supporting cast.
So read the thing already, it's definitely worth a few bucks!
I am in the bemusing position of reviewing a book about why people value celebrity. And of course I am reading this single because celebrity fascinates me. This single provides a closer look into the machine that fills the great American celebrity need. Most attractive to me is David's willingness to reveal her own lust for that time in the spotlight and the lengths to which she was prepared to go. So often these memoirs are disingenuous in their protests that fame was a secondary gain for their other deeper and more attractive motivations. So this book fills a great niche. And it is fun to read.
